Posted on November 8, 2021On March 25, 2020, three months after the first cases of COVID-19 were reported in China, the City of Durham issued a Stay-at-Home order that effectively shut down all non-essential business in the community; Durham Public Schools had been closed since March 13th. Shortly after, on March 30, 2020, Governor Roy Cooper issued a similar statewide mandate. Duke Health & biotech companies in the Research Triangle Park (RTP) played key roles in the research and production of vaccines. Retired nurse Faye Williams returned to work part-time during the pandemic and received the first vaccination administered at Duke Health.
