Thanks for another great exhibit opening!

We want to take a moment and thank everyone who joined us to make the opening of our newest exhibit, More Than Just A Game: The NCCU vs. NC A&T Football Rivalry, a very special event. Our board and volunteers really know how to throw a party! Retired Sen. Mickey Michaux poignantly (and at times humorously) detailed the meaning of the rivalry to the African American community and to Durham. While the sun set on a beautiful and bustling Third Friday, NCCU’s Dr. Charles Johnson (pictured above) and A&T’s Dr. Arwin Smallwood talked about the important stories they uncovered during their research.

Over the last week, we have seen an outpouring of enthusiastic support for the NCCU-NC A&T rivalry, with visitors sharing their memories with us as they explore the exhibit. Please keep them coming and record your memories at the museum’s Story Kiosk, located in our Story Room!

The MoDH reopened in April to a very different Durham with adjusted expectations and precautions for in-person and virtual exhibits & events. Our approach to storytelling and public programs continues to adapt as we evolve with the new normal. As we get into our giving season, we’ll be asking for your support to help us present exhibit-related programs and events into 2022.

We’d like to extend a special thanks to those who made this exhibit possible:

  • Champion Sponsor: Carla Johnson
  • Vernetta Alston, Valinda Littlefield, Janet Parhams, Susan Ross, Freddrick Sidberrry, and Andre Vann.
