Did you know that one of the country’s most classic novelties began as a flashy advertising tool with roots right here in Durham? That’s right! The baseball card was once used by savvy businessmen to boost sales, and is now enjoyed as a timeless collectible. Durham and the Rise of the Baseball Card tells the story of the baseball card and shows how its evolution coincided with changes in American culture. The exhibit has tie-ins to major historical themes and North Carolina essential standards, including: the contributions of icons in sports and business, the significance of technology and industry, and understanding cultural traditions. The exhibit is on display at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park and the Durham History Hub throughout the 2016 baseball season.
