Plan an after-hours visit to the Hub this Friday to explore the world of a one-room schoolhouse, the historically significant Russell School, located in northern Durham County. Hear about efforts to restore and maintain this last local survivor of the Rosenwald School Initiative, which brought formal education to black children in rural communities throughout the South in the early 20th century.
Light refreshments will be served from 5:30pm to 7pm, join exhibit curator Stephanie Pryor and Phyllis Mack Horton, chair of the Russell School’s board, as they discuss the school’s legacy and efforts underway to preserve the site.
Since it’s also Third Friday, enjoy live music until 8pm under the gazebo from singer/songwriter Matt Phillips.
