Now that we have many warm, sunny days to look forward to in the next few months, it’s time to add some fun events to your calendar. We have been busily planning and are excited to share our schedule of upcoming events with you (keep scrolling!).

We kicked things off at Parizade on June 16 and were excited to see many familiar faces and meet some new friends. It has been awhile since we’ve been able to share a meal together as a group and this event definitely made for a very special memory and piece of our own history.

As we look to the future, our vision is to plan many more events such as those in our Dining Series and to collaborate with other local businesses and nonprofits so we can all share in these community experiences.

Please help us increase our community impact and grow our offerings so we can build new partnerships, continue to support local businesses, and develop exhibits and programs that feature the stories you share with us every day.

• On Thursday, July 21, from 6-8 PM at Bull City Ciderworks we are revving up for some good old-fashioned team trivia– make sure to brush up on your Durham history! We will have drink tickets available, a special raffle and a prize for the winning team.

• It’s Movie Night! We return to Durham Central Park for our second annual Movie Night on Friday, September 9, from 6-8 PM. Complete with a huge screen & complimentary popcorn. Good fun for a picnic dinner, this is a perfect FREE family event!

• SOLD OUT! Join us at COPA on Tuesday, July 19, from 6-8 PM for traditional Cuban plates made with locally-sourced ingredients in a relaxed setting. Owner Elizabeth Turnbull and Cuban historian Dr. Eric Gettig will speak about the Afro-Cuban influence on Durham’s culinary culture and the story behind how COPA came to Durham.

• The next stop in our Dining Series takes us to Geer Street Garden on Wednesday, August 10, from 6-8 PM. Guests will be treated to a family-style meal of delectable southern cooking and hear stories of Durham dining during the Civil Rights Era.

• Next up in our Dining Series is Juju on Tuesday, September 13th, from 6-8 PM. Guest speaker, Juju’s own Kate Nash (MA, Museum Studies), will discuss the culinary trends and impact of Asian culture on southern cooking in North Carolina, and there will be a musical performance from Triangle Taiko, as well!

• For the finale of our Dining Series, we will head to Vin Rouge to help fete their 30th anniversary! Join us on Wednesday, October 19, from 7-9 PM for a family-style meal that pays homage to the French New Wave of the 50s and 60s and learn about the history behind Durham’s diverse food scene, both past and present.
