“Nuevo Espíritu de Durham” Opening Recap
Posted on September 18, 2019We had an AMAZING evening celebrating the opening of our Nuevo Espíritu de Durham: New Spirit of Durham exhibit! Thank you to the estimated 250 people who attended and helped us kick-off Hispanic Heritage Month. Between the live music from Luis Del Rio and Luis Rodriguez, and the delicious horchata and taquitos from Azteca Grill, everyone in attendance had a fantastic time!
Cecilia Barja and Sandra Polanco spoke about the them and their families’ experiences of being Latino in Durham and the deep connections they feel for the inclusive and diverse community.
In case you missed it, keep an eye on our Facebook photo page, as we keep posting pictures from the event.
We are truly thankful to those who brought this exhibit to life: North Carolina Arts Council, Durham Arts Council, El Centro Hispano, Duke University Service-Learning, Duke University Romance Languages Department, Durham 150, the Latino community, exhibit curators Rodrigo Dorfman and Jeanette Shaffer, our volunteers, and everyone who came out to support us at the event.
