May 14- Tobacco Town on Two Wheels
Posted on April 25, 2016To celebrate Bike Month, Bike Durham and the Museum of Durham History are teaming up on May 14, 1-3PM to take you on a tour of Tobacco Town on Two Wheels, a leisurely six-mile ride through downtown Durham. The no-cost family friendly ride will be led by local historian Ernie Dollar, who will stop at various locations around town to tell the city’s more famous AND lesser known stories.
Afterwards, join us for socializing and Q&A with Mr. Dollar at Bull McCabe’s. Representatives from Bike Durham & MoDH will be available for you to learn more about the organizations.
Ride begins and ends (with parking available) at Museum of Durham History, 500 West Main Street.
*Note: It’s a family friendly ride, but we do encourage riders ages 10 and above, or with similar riding experience.
Earlier in the day, Durham County Library will be hosting a Bike Rodeo, with youth helmet giveaways, bike decorating, prizes and more! Fun starts at 10:00AM in the Library upper parking lot, 300 North Roxboro Street. Events will also be held Saturday at SouthWest Regional. East Regional Library will hold its events on May 21 and North Regional Library on June 25.
Once your legs are stretched and a bit of Durham History under your saddle, you’re ready for Preservation Durham & the Nasher Museum’s Mural Rides beginning on May 28, which will take you from the Durham Farmer’s Market through downtown Durham to tour up to 13 historic murals. The FREE rides last approximately 90 minutes and are open to anyone with a bicycle. Docents will guide you on your tour and describe each mural you visit, fun for the whole family!
