This summer, the Historic Russell School will present its first museum exhibition at the History Hub, June 9- December 31. The exhibition will coincide with the National Rosenwald Schools Conference, which is in Durham this June. The exhibition will tell the story of the Rosenwald schools, with particular focus on Historic Russell School. Rosenwald Schools were created by Julius Rosenwald and local communities to provide education for African-Americans in the rural South during the Jim Crow Era. There will be a public reception at the Hub on July 17, 5:30PM-7PM.

Historic Russell School: Durham’s Last Rosenwald Schoolhouse is curated by Stephanie Pryor, Executive Director of the Historic Russell School, with a very special thanks to Yea Jee Bae, Graphic Design Intern, the Board of Directors for the Friends of Russell Rosenwald School, as well as Joanne Abel and Lynn Richardson of the Durham County Public Library.

Located in Hillsborough NC, the Historic Russell School is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The school is overseen by Friends of the Russell Rosenwald School (FORRS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The mission of the FORRS is to preserve and share the Historic Russell School with visitors. Through collaboration with local and national partners, we work to increase awareness about this historic landmark, create an on-site museum, and provide educational programs for the community.
