Following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., Duke University students organized a week-long protest known as the “Silent Vigil.” Students mourned the civil rights leader, called for racial equality and freedom, and supported Duke nonacademic employees in their demand for higher minimum wage and collective bargaining rights.
