Learn - History Beneath our Feet
History Beneath Our Feet, a project of the Museum of Durham History, is a new searchable resource—a unique community “Gazetteer” that helps users discover the origins of many Durham streets, landmarks and school names. Through lively stories and images, the site brings to life the human side of two geographic areas at the heart of so much of Durham’s history: the Downtown Durham Historic District and the Hayti/ Fayetteville Street corridor.
The site is not a comprehensive inventory of the outstanding women and men who built our city’s heritage but rather a compendium of streets and landmarks with information about the people those place names commemorate. Click here to print or download self-guided walking tours.
