Supporters of Durham 150: Issue #9
Posted on June 4, 2019
Welcome to the Supporters of Durham 150 newsletter, designed to keep those interested in Durham’s sesquicentennial updated on all the planning activities surrounding the yearlong commemoration.
The Durham 150 Grant Application is Now Closed The Durham 150 grant program was established to support individuals and organizations requiring assistance to bring their anniversary-related community event or project to fruition. After awarding a total of 75 grants to date, the application for funding is now closed. We will announce the last round of grant recipients from the May application deadline in the next week. To participate in an event or project funded by a grant, please visit the calendar and look for those marked as a ‘Durham 150 Grantee.’ The website also has a form to submit your event information if you’re planning something to celebrate the sesquicentennial.
Durham 150 Merchandise: A Call for Retailers We announced Durham 150 merchandise is now available (durham150.org/store) in our last newsletter! If you haven’t seen some of the options, we’ve collected a few photos of folks wearing the gear around town. Interested in having Durham 150 items for sale in your store? In hopes of having Durham 150 merchandise available across the Bull City this year, we have worked with Brand Fuel, a promotional products agency, to create a partners and retailer section of the Durham 150 e-store. There, you’ll be able to log in and purchase larger quantities of items at a discounted/wholesale price for resale. We are pleased to invite you to participate in selling Durham 150 goods at your retail location and are excited to offer flexible products and quantities in the partners and retailer section of the e-store. To gain access to the Durham 150 store, please follow the instructions below:

Taking a Moment to Thank our Sponsors In the last email, we thanked The Duke Endowment for its contribution as the Washington Duke-level sponsor. We have two Durham 150 Bull City Champion sponsors to thank in this newsletter: Precision BioSciences and the DMA Charitable Foundation. Their contributions will help Durham 150 achieve its mission to recognize Durham’s past, present, and future with a year of events, activities and community engagement. You can find a list of Durham 150 sponsors on our website.

Mayor Grabarek served as mayor from 1963-1971, during a pivotal time in the civil rights movement. As he told the Herald-Sun during the press conference we held to kick off Durham 150 in December 2018, he believes “our diverse togetherness is life to the soul of the city of Durham.” Eddie Davis, former city council member and public historian for Durham’s sesquicentennial, coordinated a celebration prior to a City Council meeting with other mayors, family, and friends. Durham 150 provided 100 cupcakes for the centennial tribute. Check out photos from the event here. Do you have a friend, family member or colleague who would be interested in receiving these Durham 150 newsletters? Let them know they can subscribe to updates on Durham 150 here.
