Stop by 500 West Main Street between 3 and 5pm  for the Durham History Hub’s first “pop-up museum.” And don’t come empty-handed! Search your attic, basement, cupboards and drawers for a sample of “Tools of the Trade” your own family used once upon a time. This one-time event promises to surface heirlooms as well as items that are nostalgic, funny or just plain weird – all coupled with your stories of how these items were used.

Creating a place for sharing our personal bits of history is what a pop-up museum is all about. And in taking this trip down Durham’s memory lane, we’ll all learn about what it was like to be a mechanic or teacher or farmer in years past and get a feel for everyday tasks such as getting a meal on the table.

Here’s how to participate:

-Arrive by 3 p.m. with your item and plan to stay at least an hour.

-Fill out a display card (we’ll provide the card) and then talk with visitors about your item(s).

-If you  have a modern-day equivalent of your artifact, bring that, too, so everyone can see how much things have changed.

-When you leave, you’ll need to take your item with you. The Hub has no storage space!

Bring the kids! Let them shave a lathered balloon (with a Popsicle stick) and try out (non-electric) vintage kitchen utensils.  Two food trucks, LoYo on the Go and MamaDukes, will also be on hand.
