Ramsey Street

Obliterated by the Durham Freeway, Ramsey Street was opened by 1888 and eventually ran for four blocks south to Cobb Street at the northwest edge of Hayti. The street may have been named for W.A. Ramsey, an 1880s leader in Durham's effort to establish and maintain a public graded school and a city alderman in 1880.
