Moline Street

Moline Street first appears on a 1911 plat, where it is named "Doctor Moore Street." Presumably, that is in reference to Dr. Aaron Moore, one of the founders of N.C. Mutual Life Insurance Co., which spun off real-estate development companies in the 1910s and '20s - a presumption further suggested by the presence on the same plat of a Spaulding Street, possibly named for Moore's business colleague C.C. Spaulding. Spaulding Street was renamed Concord and Dr. Moore renamed Moline as the Stokesdale neighborhood grew with Durham's expanding population and the growth of the nearby North Carolina College (now NCCU).
