Mangum Street
the Blount Map of Durham's Station c. 1867, William Mangum is identified as owning a large tract of forest east of the Roxboro Road as well as a farm covering the area between Morris Street (originally Mangum's Lane) and Rigsbee Avenue.
Mangum Street appears, with that name and in its present location, on the 1884 Sanborn Map; its extension south of the railroad is McMannen Street and kept that name until the 1950s.
Mangum was converted to one-way, southbound traffic in January 1959; at the same time, Roxboro Street became one-way northbound. The change was an attempt to alleviate traffic congestion downtown.
