Great Jones Street

Gillette Avenue, originally "Glenn Street," was opened prior to 1925 and ran from Fayetteville Street east across Alston Avenue to Plum Street. By 1937, it had been closed east of Sowell Street.

A D.C. Glenn appears as owner of a lot on Glenn Street in "Hayti, Durham, N.C." on a 1908 plat; and a W.E. Glenn owned land on Alston Avenue in 1906.

The name was changed some time after 1951, probably to avoid confusion with Glenn Road and Glenn School Road in northeast Durham County. Most of Gillette Street disappeared into the Durham Freeway right-of-way. A stub remains, alongside the northbound access ramp from Alston Avenue.
