Scarborough House

The Colonial Revival residence at 1406 Fayetteville Street was built by J.C. Scarborough Sr., founding partner in the still-operating Scarborough and Hargett Funeral Home business. It was built around 1910 as Durham's African-American neighborhoods grew south from Hayti. The home is still owned by the Scarborough family. It is one of the few remaining examples of the large homes of Durham's African-American business people that formerly lined much of Fayetteville Street.
