Old Courthouse

Opened in 1916, the NeoClassical building at 200 East Main Street replaced Durham County's first courthouse, built at the same location in 1888. A heavy entablature, Corinthian pilasters, bronze doors in arched entranceways contribute to the building’s monumental quality. Judicial functions moved across Main Street to a new Judicial Building in 1978. Subsequently, the Old Courthouse was remodeled for Durham County offices including those of the County Manager, County Attorney, Register of Deeds, Tax Administration, Budget and Finance offices; and the county commissioners' offices and meeting chamber.
