Durham Bulls Athletic Park

The Durham Bulls Athletic Park opened in 1995, replacing the Bull Durham Athletic Park at Washington and Corporation streets as home field for the Durham Bulls baseball team. The park was built to Triple-A baseball standards in preparation for the team's elevation from Single-A level to an International League farm team for the Tampa Bay Rays in 1998. Built by the city with certificate of participation bonds after voters rejected a general-obligation bond issue, the 10,000-seat stadium was an inducement for team owner Jim Goodmon to leave the Bulls in Durham instead of moving them to a new home field near Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
