The most rurally sited of Durham’s public schools, Chewning has a 55-acre campus and buildings enclosing 125,000-square feet. The school opened in 1974, and has been remodeled or enlarged three times in the 21st century: in 2005, 2006 and 2009. Current student capacity is 852.
